D-Can (around $150) is a new—as in, never before employed as a toilet—25 mm surplus ammo can (17½ × 10 × 14½ inches tall), which is 2½ inches wider and more stable than the 20 mm and 1 inch wider than the 30 mm. The accompanying toilet seat has a flat-closing, no-air-gap lid (to keep from attracting flies), and it’s mounted on a slide-on aluminum top for using in camp. You’ll want to purchase a secondary 20 mm can for storing the seat and potty supplies while on the river. Dry weight is 23 pounds, with a capacity of 70 user-days (“hero use” up to 80). The D-Can is SCAT Machine compatible, or you can purchase an ordinary funnel to use at RV dumping stations and then clean with your own elbow grease. Those interested in purchasing a D-Can are advised to call for the current pricing. Canyon REO also rents D-Cans (see this page); they specialize in private-trip rental equipment—from rafts to camp kitchens to potties.
